Description and materials
- New Play K3 Disc 20” frame, as a novelty from Asian brand Play for the 2016 season.
- This is a redesigned version, with improvements on last model’s weak points and also with many updates on different areas.
- Developed and tested for months by our TrialBikes team riders.
- The down tube – bottom bracket joint has been revised, and now it’s much stronger and stiffer to ensure a high durability.
- The head tube has also been modified, which helps increase the front end’s stiffness considerably. This tube is CNC machined from one piece, 120mm long, designed to use a standard internal 1 1/8” headset.
- The main tubes are joined to the headtube by two gussets that ensure higher strength and stiffness.
- Curved seat stays help increase tyre clearance and also increase rear end’s stiffness.
- New seat tube, now a lot wider than in the K2.5 version, which helps provide higher sideways stiffness.
- Designed to use a Spanish bottom bracket (supplied optionally with the frame), in which bearings sit directly onto the frame. This ensures a higher stiffness than other traditional BB systems previously used for trials.
- Features Post Mount disc brake mounts, integrated with the left dropout and reinforced.
- The bashplate mounts have been completely modified, and now feature a more compact, simpler design that allows for weight saving and a more efficient impact absorption, and also allows you to install Bonz Pro Light or Clean bashplates.
- Dropouts are spaced at 116mm, CNC-machined and designed for use snail cams.
- New colours, with spectacular Play K3 fluro yellow and blue graphics on an anodized black base.
The 7 Compatibility Keys
Below you can find the main details you need to consider when installing different components on this frame:
- 1) Headset. This frame has a standard headtube with 42mm inner diameter, compatible with 1 1/8” internal headsets.
- 2) Bashplate. This frame has 4-bolt bashplate mounts on the bottom bracket shell. This means it’s compatible with Bonz Pro Light, Clean Light and those bashplates with the following dimensions:
· Distance between front and rear holes: 39-40mm.
· Lateral distance between holes: 43mm.
- 3) Bottom Bracket. A Spanish bottom bracket must be used (with this type of bottom bracket, bearings sit directly onto the frame without needing a thread). This frame is supplied with its bottom bracket already installed, therefore you won’t need to purchase another one separately. In any case, Play ISIS Spanish, Play Titanium Spanish, Echo ISIS Spanish and Echo SL ISIS bottom brakes are compatible and you can find them in our catalogue.
In order to avoid the cranks from rubbing the seat stays, which may happen due to varying crank offsets for each model, it’s recommended to install a 127,5mm or 128mm wide bottom bracket.
- 4) Rear Brake. This frame has Post Mount rear disc brake mounts, so be sure to use a rear brake of that type. Post Mount brake calipers sit onto the brake mounts, instead of sideways (as is the case on IS calipers).
- 5) Chain tensioner. This frame is designed for use with snail cams. Since the dropouts are spaced at 116mm, the rear hub width plus the 2 snail cams must add up to 116mm.
- 6) Rear hub. Since this frame is designed for use with snail cams, the rear hub width plus the 2 snail cams must add up to 116mm. Most 20” rear hubs are 110mm wide, therefore you’ll need 2x 3mm-thick snails cams, in this case.
Also, since this frame only has disc brake mounts, the rear hub must feature disc brake mounts too.
- 7) Fork. The steerer tube on the fork must be long enough to reach the top bolt on the stem’s steerer tube clamp.
To ensure this, you must add the length of the headtube (125mm for this frame), plus the cups bits that sit outside the headtube, plus the headset spacers (if any) and/or dust cover sitting under the stem, plus the length of your stem’s steerer tube clamp. Once you’ve done this, you’ll be ready to know if your fork is long enough so that at least 2mm of it remain above the top bolt of your stem’s steerer tube clamp.
Geometry (measured with a 365mm x 45mm offset x 71.5° fork)

Davide I. el día 2022-12-30 | A bargain, and great for now |
Performs like a 800€ frame! | |
Marcus K. el día 2021-06-22 | Ordered this frame as I saw the big discount on it. All I have to say is I am really pleased with it! Rides great, feels like a high-end bike (geo is very similar to Clean or Crewkerz bikes) and it looks great to me. It arrived quickly enough so I have to give it 5 stars! |
